The inshore action across the Aransas Pass bays remains solid, with warm water temperatures driving excellent early-morning activity. Redfish are pushing aggressively onto the shallow seagrass flats during the first hours of daylight, actively feeding on glass minnows and small blue crabs. Key drift areas around the Lighthouse Lakes estuaries and the marsh edges near Port Aransas have been especially productive. Working topwater lures and soft plastics on light jig heads near the grass line has yielded steady hookups before the mid-day heat sets in.

As the morning progresses and the sun gets higher, the speckled trout bite transitions toward slightly deeper water along the drop-offs and channel edges near Conn Brown Harbor. Live shrimp fished under a popping cork or live croaker rigged on a leader have been the most effective setups for holding trout in the 18 to 22-inch range. Additionally, black drum are schooling around hard oyster structure and bridge pylons, readily taking fresh dead shrimp on a simple Carolina rig.

Looking ahead, wind conditions are expected to remain light to moderate out of the southeast, keeping the bay waters clean and manageable for bay boats. Planning your trips around the incoming tide will give you the best window for targeting hungry redfish as they move into the shallow estuaries to feed.

Captain Kenneth Claypool has spent virtually his entire life on the water, turning a lifelong passion into a decades-long career across the Texas Coastal Bend. Before launching Murky Water Charter, Captain Kenneth spent 28 years commercial fishing these exact bays and estuaries. That extensive commercial background gives him a distinct advantage when reading subtle water conditions, tracking tidal movements, and understanding seasonal fish behavior. Today, he channels that vast well of hands-on experience into professional guiding, giving every guest an authentic, educational, and deeply rewarding day on the water. What truly sets Captain Kenneth apart is his patient, welcoming approach to teaching anglers of every skill level. He genuinely loves sharing his knowledge, whether he is demonstrating how to work a lure across a grass flat, explaining how to read a shallow shoreline, or helping a young angler reel in their very first catch. Seeing the genuine joy and big smiles on his guests' faces is the most fulfilling part of his work. He takes pride in running a kid-friendly environment where every member of the group feels completely comfortable, safe, and supported throughout the day. Navigating the complex bay systems around Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, and Rockport requires a refined understanding of local ecosystems, and Captain Kenneth knows these waterways intimately. Over the years, he has developed a keen eye for spotting subtle signs of life—from shifting current seams and diving birds to nervous baitfish—that point directly to active redfish and speckled trout. His deep local roots and lifelong connection to the Coastal Bend mean that when you step aboard, you are fishing alongside a true expert who respects the fishery and works tirelessly to give you an unforgettable experience. Your time on the bay takes place aboard a restored 22-foot Kenner bay boat, custom-designed to smoothly navigate both open waters and shallow coastal flats. Powered by a reliable 200HP Yamaha engine, this center console vessel offers plenty of space for up to five guests to fish comfortably. The boat comes fully outfitted with modern navigation and fish-finding technology, including GPS, a high-definition fishfinder, a live bait well to keep fresh bait lively, and a quiet wireless trolling motor for stealthy shallow-water approaches. Clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully equipped, it provides a safe, stable, and reliable platform for your time on the water.
